Dorothy M. Zander, age 89 of Janesville, passed into Glory on Saturday, March 5, 2011 in Mankato. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freedom Township, Waseca County with Rev. Glenn Korb officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue at the church on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services. Dorothy Margaret was born on September 14, 1921 to Frank and Ida (Hoelz) Apley in New Richland, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter''s Lutheran Church in New Richland. Dorothy attended rural country school and graduated from New Richland High School. After completing her education she was employed as a cook for several families in Rochester, she then returned back to the Owatonna area and was employed by Jostens as a machine operator during WW II. On July 25, 1944 she was united in marriage to Fred C. Zander at St. John''s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. After marrying, Dorothy and Fred raised their family on the Zander family farm located in Freedom Township, Waseca County. She was an active partner in the family farm and maintained her interest in agriculture her whole life. Dorothy was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild, and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years in both her childhood church in New Richland and later at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed being a member the Waseca County Farm and Home Management Association and the Jovial Jill''s Waseca County Home Extension. Dorothy enjoyed reading and valued libraries and was appointed and served on the Waseca/LeSueur County Regional Library Board for many years. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She is survived by her sons, Dan (Diane) Zander and John (Autumn) Zander all of Janesville; by her granddaughter Kelsey Johnson of Mankato; by her sister, Vida (John) Hendrickson of Waterville; by her sister-in-law Marlene Apley of Lake City; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 1979 and her parents and her brother Harold Apley.
