DOROTHY MAE SPIES, age 90 of Waseca died on Monday, November 9, 2015 at her home.
Born on February 24, 1925 in Waseca, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Draheim) Wood.  She attended school in Waseca, graduating in 1943.  Dorothy married Arvin Spies on November 27, 1944 at the First Congregational Church in Waseca.   She spent her entire life in Waseca raising her family.  She also worked at Rutledge Insurance, Mishek Supply, and Waseca Saving & Loan.  Dorothy had also worked as matron and cook at the Waseca County Jail while her husband was in law enforcement.  Upon their retirement, they bought their country home and set up a woodworking business.   Dorothy loved life and was kind and loving to all she knew.  She enjoyed woodworking, reading, watching TV, and spending time with family.   She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Waseca.
Dorothy is survived by four children, Karen (Richard) Johnson of Waseca, Allen Spies of New Prague, Ronnie (Amy) Spies of Waseca, and Cheri (Larry) Boucher of Elysian; 10 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren with one on the way.   She is also survived by one sister, Frances (Lawrence "Bob") Muedeking of Waseca; sister-in-law, Lois Wood of Waseca; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Karen Spies; three sisters, Marion, Edith, and Grace; and two brothers, Lyle and Orlando. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Congregational Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.  Visitation will be held on Friday, one hour before services at the church.
