Dorothy Hovelsrud August 18, 1926 - February 19, 2011
Dorothy J. (Quam) Hovelsrud, age 84 of Waseca, died on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Immanuel-St. Joseph''s Mayo Health System in Mankato. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca with Rev. Edward Strom, officiating. Interment will be in the Moorhead Memorial Gardens at a later date. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorials preferred to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Dorothy Jean was born on August 18, 1926 in Spring Prairie Township, Clay County (Glyndon) Minnesota to Andrew and Jennie Louise (Larson) Quam. Dorothy was Valedictorian of Hawley High School graduating class of 1944. On April 30, 1949 Dorothy was united in marriage to Clifford Richard Hovelsrud at the Hawley Bible Church in Hawley, Minnesota. Dorothy and Clifford raised their family and resided in the Moorhead Area their entire married life. In 2010 Dorothy moved to Latham Place in Waseca, Minnesota. Dorothy was a lifetime member of The Evangelical Free Church of America, and volunteered her time with the church missions and White Cross. She was very involved in children''s ministry through her church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent. She loved gardening, sewing, and doing her own bookwork! She also enjoyed baking, especially lefse and flatbread. She is survived by her two sons Neil (Susie) Hovelsrud of Waseca and Scott (Audrey) Hovelsrud of Prescott Valley, AZ; by her daughter Louanne (Rev. Edward) Strom of Ottawa, IL; by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; by her brothers Roger (Martha) Quam of Sioux Falls, SD and Rev. David (Carol) Quam of Chaska; by her sisters Carol Nelson of Hawley and Patricia (Merle) Hough of Detroit Lakes; by her sister-in-law Elsie Quam of Moorhead; by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clifford on June 20, 2001; by her two brothers Lawrence Quam and Kenneth Quam, and her sister Eileen (Frank) Walerius. Casketbearers are Dorothy''s grandchildren: Rachel Bass, Erin Krueger, Amy Greiner, Cassie Hovelsrud, Toby Hovelsrud, Hannah Hovelsrud, Hailey Hovelsrud, and Holly Hovelsrud.
