Dorothy Burkhartzmeyer January 27, 1911 - October 5, 2011
Dorothy M. Burkhartzmeyer, age 100, of Faribault, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the District One Hospital in Faribault, with her family at her side. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church in Faribault. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault. Dorothy Martha Sanders, the daughter of Oscar and Millie (Kessel) Sanders, was born on January 27, 1911 in Faribault. She attended Garfield Elementary and graduated from Faribault High School. Dorothy married Peter P. Burkhartzmeyer Sr. on October 10, 1935 at the First English Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1998. In addition to being a homemaker for her family, Dorothy''s career included work as a bookkeeper or office worker for Andrews Nursery, Parker Ford Garage, Faribault Daily News and ending as secretary at First English Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong resident of Faribault and member of First English Lutheran Church, where she has been an active member and it was like a second home to her. Dorothy loved socializing with her church family and if there was an activity going on at church, she would be there. She is survived by two sons, Peter Jr. (Teri) Burkhartzmeyer and John Sr. (Sandi) Burkhartzmeyer, both of Faribault; daughter- in-law, Shirley Burkhartzmeyer of Faribault; nine grandchildren, Peter "Paul" III (Carolyn) Burkhartzmeyer, Heather Halvorson, LaQueta (Joseph) Cummins, John Jr. (Karen) Burkhartzmeyer, Mark (Laura) Burkhartzmeyer, Lori (Matt) Letourneau, Ann (Rick) Martinez, Lisa (Ron) Watters, and Tammy (Mike) Cashin; 28 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Wingenbach Walsh of Yakima, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Sr.; son, David Burkhartzmeyer; and sister, Mildred Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First English Lutheran Church in memory of Dorothy.
