DONNA MAE IRENE MICHAELS, age 87 of Waterville, died on Friday, Feburary 23, 2018 at Traditions in Waterville.
Born in Faribault on February 20, 1931, Donna was the daughter of Roman and Irene (Pope) Grubish. She attended school in Waterville and graduated with the class of 1949. On June 5, 1950 Donna married Verle Michaels at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. She held various positions over her lifetime including a job at Luthers Ben Franklin and a 22 year career at the Waterville Nursing Home. She was a past member of St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. She loved watching the Minnesota Twins and sharing her love of baking with family and friends – especially around Christmas time when she made countless varieties of cookies and candies. She also greatly enjoyed collecting teddy bears, and had amassed a collection of over 200 glass and plush pieces.
Donna is survived by one daughter, Sue Michaels of Waterville; one sister, Joan (Burdette) Broughten of Owatonna; one brother-in-law, Allan (Kay) Michael of Faribault; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; as well as special friends, Mary Meyman of Waterville; Ron & Judy Gregor of Waterville, and all of the staff and residents at Traditions of Waterville and St. Croix Hospice. She was preceded in death by her parents Roman and Irene Grubish; her husband, Verle Michaels; one sister, Geraldine Harriman; her parents-in-law, Aaron and Elsie Michael; one brother-in-law, Norval Michael; and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Parker and Evelyn Meschke.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Monday, March 5, 2018 at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. John Omans officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.
