Donna Mae Flaten
DONNA MAE FLATEN, age 82 of Waseca died on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Born on July 11, 1936 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Charles and Alma (Tietz) Blasing. She was baptized at the Church of Peace in Rochester and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Pine Island. Donna attended elementary school in Douglas and junior high and high school in Pine Island. She was married to Gordon Flaten on July 16, 1953 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Pine Island.
Donna had been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca where she served on the church council, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Release Time. She was also a member of the quilting group. Now a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Donna continued quilting activities and enjoyed Bible Study. Very concerned about others in need around the world, she served on the Women of the Word Mission Committee at church for a number of years. She was a regular contributor to selected charities throughout her life.
In addition to caring for the household and caring for and nurturing her children, Donna was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on business trips where she participated in various training seminars. For several years she managed Heavenly Home Baked Pizza and Subs. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, tole painting, finishing duck decoy blanks and sewing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband and family. Donna touched many people with her gentle and loving spirit.
She is survived by three daughters, Pam (Dennis) Born and Claudia (Dane) Wobschall of Waseca and Andrea Flaten-Peter of Farmington; three sons, Jeffrey (Mary) Flaten of Savage, Larry (Barbara) Flaten of Janesville, and Christopher (fiancé Remy) Flaten of Fridley; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ginger Blasing of Pine Island and Phyllis (Arnold) Horejsi of Lonsdale. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; brother, Arnold Blasing; and nephew, Jon Blasing. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 11:30 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
