Dick DeHoogh July 27, 1920 - November 12, 2009
Dick William DeHoogh, age 89, of Faribault, and formerly of Worthington, MN, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the District One Hospital in Faribault surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Benson Funeral Home, Worthington. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Worthington. Interment will be at the Worthington Memorial Cemetery. Dick William DeHoogh was born July 27, 1920 in Boyden, Iowa. The youngest of six sons of Theodore C. and Adriana (Oranje) DeHoogh, he grew up and attended school in Sheldon, Iowa. Dick married Jessie Janet Ras on September 2, 1945 in Slayton, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Sheldon, Iowa before moving to Worthington. They later farmed the Ras family farm in Fulda before returning to Worthington. For many years, Dick worked as a meat cutter for Red Owl, Schafer Finer Foods and prior to retirement at Armours. After retirement, Dick and Jessie moved to Sioux Falls in 1981 until they moved to Faribault in 2000. After Jessie''s death on December 30, 2006, he resided with his eldest daughter in her home until his death. Dick and Jessie enjoyed traveling and camping throughout the continental United States. They also traveled with friends and relatives to Hawaii, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. They found pleasure in visiting their farms near Fulda, Wilmont and Reading. Being proud of his Dutch heritage, he and Jessie visited family and friends in Holland on several occasions. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. Most of all, Dick enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and as well as the family''s newest additions, great-grandchildren, Vincent and Lauren. He is survived by two daughters, Dione Peterson, of Faribault and Devone Hasara, of Wasilla, AK; two grandsons, Dominic, of Wasilla, AK and Nicholas (Lynn) Hasara, of Medford, three step-grandchildren, Eric (Jan) Peterson, of Sioux Falls, Kari (Scott) Werdahl, of Chaska, and Kristi (Tim) Gerry of Eau Claire; two great grandchildren, Vincent and Lauren Hasara and seven step great-grandchildren, Rika and Elias Peterson, Eric and Marin Werdahl, Alicia, Emily and Rebekah Gerry. He was preceded in death by his wife, his son-in-law, Donald Peterson, his parents, and his five brothers, Cornelius,
John, Theodore, Adrian, and Gerrad.
