Delores Holmquist, age 101, of Janesville passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the Janesville Nursing Home.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Janesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Kathy King officiating. Interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Delores Owen was born on August 2, 1915 to Lloyd and Eva (Smith) Owen in Waseca County. She attended Alma City Grade School and Pemberton High School.
She was united in marriage to Harold Holmquist, September 4, 1940. They farmed for 40 years, southwest of Janesville, until her husband became ill and then moved into Janesville until his death. Delores then moved to the Real-Life Apartments in Mankato to be close to her sister Alice Olson and later to Primrose Apartments. In March, 2013 she moved into the Janesville Nursing Home.
She was a member of Rebecca Lodge for many years. She and Harold loved to travel, dance and fish; especially their numerous good times in northern Minnesota. They both enjoyed square dancing as well. Delores was the last survivor in her immediate family.
Delores is survived by her granddaughters, Dawn Zimmerman of Owatonna, Kim Hinshley of Owatonna and Tracy Cobban of Medford; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; special niece and care giver for many years, Beverly (Duane) Engel; nieces, Diane (Mike) Hatch of Hanford, CA, Donna (the late Gerald) Cahoon of Port Charlotte, FL, Shirley (the late David) Owen of Mankato, and Darlene (the late Dean) Owen of Benson; nephews, Dale (the late Shirley) Owen of Mankato, Donald (Carol) Owen of Vesta, Charles (Josephine) Owen of Conway, SC;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, David; brothers, Lyle (Orvilla), Harold (Hazel), Lavern (Dorothy) and Ray (Eleanor Owen; sister, Alice (Everett) Olson and Effie (Millus) Massey; 4 nephews and 2 nieces.
