DAVID ERWIN POSSIN, age 75 of New Richland, died on the afternoon of Saturday, August 12, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
David was born in Waseca on May 22, 1948, to parents Erwin and Elinore (Prescher) Possin. He attended school in New Richland and graduated with the class of 1966. After high school he served with the United States Army in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Minnesota and continued his education in Mankato and obtained a bachelor’s degree in education. On October 4, 1969, David was married to Cheryl Wobschall in Ellendale. As a young family they began farming, and David continued in that vocation throughout his life. He also spent time as an art teacher for Ellendale Public Schools before their consolidation with surrounding communities. He was a talented artist who worked in multiple mediums throughout his life and had a particular affinity for barn and farm scenes, as well as nature and landscapes. He was a long-time member of Vista Evangelical Covenant Church near New Richland, and he was deeply involved in “Youth for Christ” both on the board and working with teens.
David is survived by his devoted wife of fifty three years, Cheryl Possin of New Richland; two children, Tina (Royal) Streed of Waseca and Timothy (Rachel Frey) Possin of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Brittany (Jake Esse) Anderson, Payton (Kathryn Jewison) Anderson, Caleb Possin, Noah Frey, and Payton Frey; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Quinn Esse; six siblings, Judith Schifflet of Byron, Karen Schrupp and her husband Lyle Davidson of Austin, TX, Pamela (Gary) Strenge of New Richland, Rebecca (Jim Ryan) Witz-Ross of Mounds View, James (Chris) Possin of New Richland, and Beverly (Dennis) Crawford of Erda, UT; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; best companion beagle BoJangles. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
The Possin family would like to extend a special thank-you to the entire staff of St. Croix Hospice for their incredible care and compassion as David approached the end of his life.
Visitation will be held at Vista Evangelical Covenant Church from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
