David J. Kahnke March 22, 1931 - May 9, 2014

David James Kahnke, age 83, of Waseca, MN, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Waseca, with Father Gregory Leif, officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.

Visitation will be held at the McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca on Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.

David was born March 22, 1931 in Waseca to Vincent and Mary (Lynch) Kahnke. He grew up on a farm west of Waseca and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School. He was united in marriage 65 years ago to Evelyn (Wendland) in Waseca. He was the owner of Dave''s Service & Marine (which is now Past & Present Antiques & Gifts), where he retired in 1997.

Dave was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Dave is survived by his wife, Evelyn; six children, Jane (Bill) Disher of Owatonna, Barb (Ed) Roesler, Collette (Neil) Berg, Duane (Wendy) Kahnke, all of Waseca, Don (Brenda) Kahnke of Elysian and Doug (Toni) Kahnke of Belle Fourche, SD; daughter-in-law, Kendra Kahnke of Winnett, MT; 20 grandchildren; over 25 great grandchildren; and was looking forward to his first great great grandchild due this fall; one sister, Therese (Robert) Nord of Waterville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Kahnke Jr.; five siblings; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Patrick, and Paige.
