Daniel Karl Nelson

DANIEL KARL NELSON, age 65 of Waseca, died on the evening of Friday, January 27, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Dan was born on June 15, 1957 in Ely to parents Lester Nelson and Lillian Hicks. He went to Ely schools before continuing his education at Albert Lea Vo-Tech where he studied to become an electrician. On July 26, 1985 Dan married Connie Jean Suemnick at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca. Through his working years Dan was employed as a machinist, factory worker, electrician, and most recently he was a truck driver. As a result of his trucking experience, an interesting talent of Dan’s was that he could tell you the best restaurants throughout the country (including all the necessary exit numbers and directions). Known for many years to his friends and family as “Red”, Dan enjoyed riding motorcycles, leatherworking, and tinkering with all kinds of engines.

Dan is survived by his wife of 37 years, Connie; two children, Heath Nelson and Emily (Michael Britton) Nelson; his mother, Lillian Hicks; and two siblings, Denise Ernst and Dianne Cram. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Nelson and his brother, Dennis Nelson.

Dan’s family would like to thank all of the staff at Colony Court in Waseca and all employees throughout the Mayo Clinic Health System for the outstanding care that Dan has received throughout the years.

A public visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. A private family interment will take place at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
