Dale Benedict March 1, 1932 - December 5, 2010

Dale E. Benedict, age 78 of rural Waseca, died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph''s Mayo Health System in Mankato. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Nancy Hansen, officiating. Military honors will follow services, and interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home and Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Thursday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred. Dale Eugene was born on March 1, 1932 to Page and Ethel (Blasing) Benedict in Janesville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. Dale grew up in Mapleton but spent much time with his maternal grandparents, Gust and Olga Blasing of rural Elysian. On July 20, 1950 he entered military service with the United States Army. Dale served his country during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on October 14, 1953. Dale married DeEtta Lutz on October 17, 1960 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. Together they raised their six children in the Janesville area. He worked on heavy equipment for various construction companies over the years, the last company being Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye. Dale also drove semi for Marv Pearson Livestock of Janesville for many years. Dale had also been a seasonal employee of Crystal Valley Cooperative. He enjoyed family events, friends, his pets and his team of ponies. Dale was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville, the Elysian Men''s Club and the Janesville American Legion Post #281. He is survived by his wife DeEtta of Waseca; by his son Mark (Robin) Benedict of Peyton, CO; by his daughters, Janice (Bob) Cords of Waseca, Joyce (Monte) Umstead of Eagle Grove IA, Patti Benedict- Serna (Rigo Serna) of Janesville, Lynn (Bruce) Strunk of Waseca and Diane (Mark) Koziolek of Janesville; by 13 grandchildren, Matthew Benedict, Amanda Benedict, Traci Cords, Tyler Cords, Valarie (Erdman) Webb, Andrew Erdman, Jeston Umstead, Lucas Umstead, Janelle Witt, Jacob Witt, Nathan Witt, Reva Strunk, and Mara Strunk; by his 6 great grandchildren, Joshua Webb, Lindsey Webb, Braydon Cousins, KayleeAhna Berg, Bailey Hodgkins, and Gavin Hodgkins; by his sisters Eva (Tom) Hughes and Mary Jane Bair all of Mankato; by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
