Cyrilla Ann Baune was born on June 26, 1927 in Willow Lake Township. She was the first of eleven children born to Ray and Marcella Hagart Baune. She grew up with a rosary to her lips, and apron across her waist, with the responsibilities of being the eldest sister, and excitedly waiting all week for Friday nights dancing.
Just after completing beautician school, she met a man on the street who would become her husband for 67 years. Together, Max and Cyrilla Lande, raised five children and two foster boys while living at St. Marys. As a family, they took cross-country camper trips. Their favorite stops often included ice cream. While her children attended school, Cyrilla ran a beauty shop business from her porch. She loved chatting with her clients as a tight perm set. Her children raced home from school for their mothers homemade baked goods. Cyrilla was a mother who moved furniture to teach her children how to dance polka. She also taught her children how to pray, how to give to others, and how to embrace moments of fun and joy.
Cyrillas golden years shined with hobbies and the people who shared them with her. Music inspired Cyrilla, and she especially loved long weekend festivals of country music. Some of her best friends quilted and sewed next to her, played cards with her, and sat beside her as she called out "Bingo." She boldly tried new recipes, often testing them out on her apprehensive but supportive husband. Her calendar filled with day trips to the theatre, and everyone knew to call her if they wanted a shopping partner. Other favorite pastimes were winters spent down south, reunions, and summers vacations in northern Minnesota, especially because of the time spent with family. Cyrilla taught her grandchildren how to hang laundry on the line, how to add flour to batter, and how to pluck a berry from the vine. She knew all her grandchildrens favorites foods -- her special way of telling them how much they meant to her.
After Cyrillas passing, the values shes courageously lived by will live on through generations, and Max will continue tending to her garden
She is survived by her husband Max; children, Dean (Vanessa) Lande, Patricia Lande, Carol (Robert) Fealey, Constance (Roger) Ockwig and Nancy (Kellen) Cassellius; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Cyrilla was preceded in death by her parents; foster son, Robert Nielsen and sister, Darlene Macht.
