Cruz Armendariz January 4, 1919 - August 3, 2012
Cruz Armendariz, age 93 of Waseca, formerly of Janesville, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Lake Shore Inn of Waseca. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 7th at 10:30 A.M. at McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Waseca with Fr. Peter Klein, officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be held on Tuesday morning from 9:00 A.M. until the hour of service, at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca. Cruz was born January 4, 1919 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Catarino and Bernadina (Zuniga) Armendariz. In 1933 his family settled in the Janesville area. Cruz served his country in the United States Army. As a member of an Armored Unit, Cruz earned a Purple Heart Medal for his valor in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Cruz worked as a handyman and painter in the Waseca area, and was a member of the Sweet-Sommers VFW Post #1642 in Waseca. He loved to visit with people, enjoyed working in his yard, and gardening. Cruz was known for his great sense of humor! He is survived by his brother, Paul Armendariz of Janesville, and his sister-in- law, Phyllis Armendariz of Mankato; by many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Catarino Jr, and Raymond; sisters, Monica Armendariz, Florence Armendariz, Jane Rios, and Natividad Martinez.
