Clifford E. Coonrod, age 72 of Janesville, died unexpectedly Friday, February 1, 2013 following an accident on Lake Elysian near Janesville.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, February 9th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Peter Klein, Celebrant. Military Honors will be performed immediately following services outside of church.

The Coonrod Family will greet friends on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services, at church.

Clifford Earl was born June 20, 1940 in Laurel, Nebraska to Clifford and Leone (McFadden) Coonrod. At the age of 6 his family moved to Jackson, Minnesota. Cliff graduated with the class of 1958 from Jackson High School. He entered military service with the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Norfolk Destroyer/Leader. Following his honorable discharge from his military duty, he returned home to Jackson. On January 6, 1962 he was united in marriage to Nona L. Soucek at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson. Cliff and Nona lived in Jackson for a short time before moving to Janesville where he began a long career with the City of Janesville. He served as the City of Janesville''s superintendent of distribution until his retirement in 2000. Cliff was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville, and Janesville American Legion Post # 281. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Nona of Janesville; children, Robert (fianc, Angie Altenburg) Coonrod of Mankato, and Michael (Judy) Coonrod of Inver Grove Heights; grandchildren, Will and Kristen Coonrod, and Nakita and Cobra Coonrod; brother, Gary Coonrod of Bristol, IN; sister, JoAnn Kerbergen of Tempe, AZ; sisters-in-law, Peggy (Merle) Rossow of Bloomington, CA, Debra (Ron) Reker of Janesville, and ary (Steven) Bertrand of St. Paul; by many nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
