Clarence Ludwig Guse

November 15, 1933 — November 26, 2021

Clarence Ludwig Guse, age 88, of rural Waseca, passed away Friday, November 26th, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Clarence was born on November 15th, 1933, in Iosco Township in Waseca County. He was baptized on December 11, 1933, and confirmed his faith in March of 1947, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Clarence attended country school in Alton township, Trinity Lutheran Parochial School and later Janesville Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1951. Following his education, he worked for his uncles, Leonard and Herman and saved enough money to attend the University of Minnesota - St. Paul Campus to study agriculture. After 6 months and depletion of financial resources, Clarence returned to rural Waseca and continued to work for his uncles. In 1953, he met the love of his life, Beverly Eileen Gehring. They wed on March 18, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilton Township. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past March.

Clarence and Bev were fortunate enough to travel much of the United States and also visit several countries. Clarence and Bev traveled to the Panama Canal in 2012 and saw the new canal under construction. His dream was to return and sail through the new canal, so in 2017 they took their final big adventure by sailing through the new Panama Canal.

Clarence also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and watching his children and grandchildren’s many athletic and art events. Clarence served multiple positions on the Trinity Lutheran Church, Wilton council. He was the last surviving member of the “Wegitum” club, a group of ten Waseca natives that spent decades going on yearly hunting trips.

Clarence is survived by his wife; children: John (LuAnn) Guse of Mapleton, Richard (Kristin) Guse of Waseca, Jean Kirick of Sartell, Judy (Craig) McCourtney of Eagle Lake, Kay (Gary) Gottschalk of Janesville, Mary(Steve) Kramer of Dodge Center, Larry (Christa Welbon) Guse of Rochester, Lori (John) Kulander of Farmington; siblings, Herbert (Mavis) Guse, Marvin (Kathy) Guse, Carl Guse, all of Janesville, Paul Guse of Waseca, Lila (Dick) Karrer of Mountain Home, AR, Ruby (Dave) Isebrand of Pemberton, Grace Guse of Lacrosse, WI, and sister-in-law Paulette Guse of Ringsted, IA. He is also survived by his 22 grandchildren and their spouses, and 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
