Clara S. Michels, age 89, of Faribault, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Mary''s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Clara was a resident at Keystone Communities of Faribault for the past 5 years. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral home in Faribault with Pastor Steve Delzer, Pastor of Our Savior''s Lutheran Church in Faribault, officiating. Interment will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage, Iowa. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Clara Sylvia Holum, the daughter of Knute and Minnie (Storbeck) Holum, was born on September 24, 1919 in Ada, MN. Clara graduated from Waubun High School in 1938. She was formerly married to Kenneth Engebretson and married Jerry Michels of Pelican Rapids on May 30, 1970 in Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived in the Detroit Lakes area until retirement when she and Jerry moved to Faribault. Winters were spent at their Mission, TX home. Clara enjoyed ice fishing, summer fishing, was a wonderful cook and among her many sewing and hand work talents made beautiful Hardanger embroidery. Clara was a member of Our Savior''s Lutheran Church. She is survived by her son Myron (Maureen) Engebretson of Marietta, GA and stepchildren Darrel (Sandra) Michels of Owatonna, Anne (Paul) Roach- Stegmeir of Faribault, Cinda Michels of Faribault, Mark (Barb) Michels of Owatonna, Tom (Joyce) Michels of Menomonie, WI, Robert (Glenda) Michels of Pelican Rapids, James (Melanie) Michels of Pelican Rapids and Jon (Karen) Michels of Zimmerman; by twenty- five grandchildren, twenty -six great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her husband Jerry, her parents, brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Edna Holum; son-in-law James Roach and former husband Kenneth Engebretson.
