Charles E. Nichols, age 60, of Faribault, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 25, 2011, following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory in Faribault, with Rev. Ronald Wik, pastor of Bethel Ridge Lutheran Brethren Church, officiating. Interment will be at the Meadow Ridge Memorial Park in Faribault, with military honors provided by the Rice County Central Veterans Association. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Charles Edwin Nichols, the son of Joseph and Shirley (Dahl) Nichols, was born on April 4, 1951 in Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1969 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was married to Sandra Bokman, they had two children and were later divorced. Charles worked at Hardware Hank, Chadderdon Lumber, Mahler''s Hardware Store, and Nutting Truck and Caster Co. For the past 20 years he has been employed with Malt-O-Meal Co. of Northfield. Charles collected and restored toy model tractors and actual size tractors. He was a talented carpenter, artist, and musician. He was a member of the Faribault Moose Lodge and Faribault Elks Lodge. He was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is survived by his children, Heidi Nichols (Ryan Westberg) of Richfield, and Charlie "Buck" (Abigail) Nichols of Faribault;grandson, Patrick; siblings, Sharon (Gary) Evans of Medford, Linda Flicek of Faribault, Peggy (Bob) Rapose of Oceanside, CA, Rich (Deb) Nichols of Lakeville, Becky (Eric) Anderson of West Bend, WI, and Kim (Jim) Johnson of Faribault; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and sister, Ruth Ann Flom.
