Waterville, Minnesota

CARL NORRIS HUTCHISON, passed away peacefully on September 26th, 2024, at the age of 75 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Minneapolis, MN. Carl was born in Woodland, CA on November 30th, 1948, to Marrietta “LaVerne” (Odom) & Register Hutchison. He lived in Orangevale, CA until age 13 when his family returned to southeast MO where he resided until he joined the U.S. Army in 1968. After graduating from basic training in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he was stationed in California and then deployed to Korea until 1969 when he was involved in a near-fatal accident which resulted in a traumatic brain injury that left him paralyzed and in a coma for two months. He spent the next year recovering at VA Medical centers in CO and MO & with family in MT & MO. Carl was honorably discharged as a retired disabled veteran in November of 1970. He met his wife Janice (Fehlandt) in Farmington, MO in 1975, wooing her with pork chops and the loud pipes on his 1970 Dodge Charger. They were married on October 9th, 1977, in Glencoe, MN & lived in MO until moving to Hutchinson, MN just before their daughter Kori was born in 1982. They moved to Zumbrota in 1983, and later settled in Waterville in 1987 where Carl lived until 2022 when he moved to Central Health Care in Le Center, MN. He transitioned to the Minnesota Veterans Home in July of 2024.

Carl enjoyed working on house projects, having morning coffee at the local café, spectator sports, especially NFL and the Minnesota Vikings, enjoying his lake home, traveling, drawing, listening to music, & exploring new restaurants with his wife. He was very active in AA in the early years of his sobriety, and proudly celebrated 44 years sober on September 11, 2024. Carl enjoyed being able to stay at home with his daughter when she was young & loved to take credit for how well she turned out in spite of her formative years spent as his fishing partner, construction assistant, and general partner in crime. Carl was proud of his wife Janice and was happiest when they spent time together. He loved her very much.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father in-law Pearl & John “Jack” Fehlandt, his brothers Glen (Mike), Craig, & Rodney Hutchison, his beloved little sisters LaVerne “Bernie” Harvey & Sue Anne Henson, his nieces “Baby” Dawn Hutchison & Sarah Harvey & nephew Eric Hutchison, his infant brothers Dade & Rexford Hutchison, his brothers & sister in-law Mervin Fehlandt, Dwight Richardson, Art McMordie, & Darlene Hutchison, & his treasured grand-dog, Shasta.
