Carl E. Benson was born on December 15, 1942, to Carl and Irma (Gottschalk) Benson in Janesville Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. Following the passing of his father in 1946, Carl and his brother Vern were raised by their grandparents, Emil and Anna Benson on the family farm. Carl graduated in 1961, from the Southern School of Agriculture in Waseca. Carl farmed alongside his grandpa for a few years before enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard and proudly served his country until being honorably discharged in 1964. Carl returned to the farm, he expanded the farming operation to hauling livestock and later purchased the Janesville Stock Yard. When the stock yard began to slow down, Carl transitioned his trucking company to hauling grain as an owner operator. Carl was a hard worker throughout his life until retiring due to health concerns.
Carl was a lifelong faithful member of the Janesville United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Janesville American Legion. Carl enjoyed collecting model tractors and antiques. In his younger years he spent many days fishing and enjoyed hunting. He is fondly remembered for his courageous and compassionate personality and willingness to help anyone in need. He will be dearly missed.
Carl is survived by his brother, Vern of Janesville and his special friend Margery Lisle of North Mankato; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Emil and Anna Benson and his parents, Carl and Irma (Gottschalk) Benson.
