Carl Ziebarth, age 97, of Faribault, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, following complications from an automobile accident on May 23, 2013.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault, with Fr. Erik Lundgren officiating. Private interment will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday for one hour prior to services.

Carl Archie Ziebarth, the son of William A. and Annie Matilda (Peterson) Ziebarth, was born September 6, 1916 in Wrenshall, MN. Carl grew up on a farm near Wrenshall. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 10, 1941. A World War II veteran, he served in North Africa and Italy with Company F, 135th Infantry, 34th Division and received three Purple Hearts and five overseas service bars. After the war, Carl attended the University of Minnesota earning a Bachelor of Science in agriculture and later a Master of Science in education. He taught vocational agriculture for over 35 years. His teaching career began in Belgrade, MN, where he met his wife Betty. He also taught in Benson, Medford, Mapleton and Faribault, Minnesota.

Carl practiced sustainable farming and cared deeply for the land. He raised small grains, corn, and soybeans. He also had an extensive vegetable garden on his acreage near

Faribault. Carl''s sweet corn was the best. Carl was honored with the Sustainable Farming Association of Minnesota''s Sustainable Farmer Emeritus Award in 2010. Carl and his family built their own home and traveled extensively, not only in the United States but around the world - a sustainable agriculture tour to China, a hiking trip in England and Wales, and a teaching exchange in New Zealand. Carl''s life is an example to all and he will be deeply missed.

Carl is survived by his three children, Ann Ziebarth (Jeff Crump), John Ziebarth (Kathy) and their daughters Lauryn and Julie, and Matt Ziebarth (Jana Stephens) and their son''s Dan and Sam; and by his brother Kenneth James Ziebarth and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 60 years Betty (Elizabeth Jeanne Barta) Ziebarth, an infant son Anthony James and his siblings Raymond William Ziebarth, Florence Caroline (Ziebarth) Ekern, William Louis Ziebarth, Wesley Edwin Ziebarth, his twin brother Clifford Alfred Ziebarth, Clarence Arnold Ziebarth and twin Irene Lois (Ziebarth) Murray, and his surviving brother Ken''s twin Kathryn Joyce Ziebarth.
