Byron 'Buster' Broughten
BYRON "BUSTER" BROUGHTEN, age 93 of Waseca died on Monday, June 19, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born on March 8, 1924 in Waseca County, Minnesota, he was the son of Lars and Etta (Soule) Broughten. He attended school in rural Waseca County and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Buster married Marian Schneider on December 27, 1944 in Albert Lea. He farmed in Blooming Grove Township, Waseca County for several years and then worked at OTC in Owatonna for 20 years. In his later years, Buster enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica and building scale model farm machinery such as steam engines and tractors. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca and the Waseca VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Marian of Waseca; children, Gary (Pam) Broughten of Waseca, Jerome (Joan) Broughten of Waseca, Tony (Monica) Broughten of Eagle Lake, Steve (Sandra) Broughten of Winston, OR, Linda (Fred) Eichorst of Waseca, Randy Broughten of Northfield, Daniel (Cheri) Broughten of Waseca, David (Teresa) Broughten of Waseca, Diane (Bill) Severin of Waseca, Cindy (Matt) Somers of Waseca, and Valerie (Brian) Broughten of Dayton; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three siblings, Bonnie (Felix) Wochnick of Owatonna, Burdette (Joan) Broughten of Owatonna, and LaDonna Turkbas of Edina; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bert Broughten; and two sisters, Blanche Pitzner and Beatrice Nelson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Faith United Methodist Church in Waseca with Rev. Victor Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, one hour before services at the church
