Beverly Lenore Barrie

BEVERLY LENORE BARRIE, age 85, of Waseca died on Saturday evening, December 31, 2022, at her home.


Born on October 17, 1937, in Fedora, South Dakota to Wendell and Mabel (Naser) Mahoney. She attended Plano High School in Fulton, South Dakota, graduating with the class of 1955. Beverly continued her education at Miller Beauty School in Sioux Falls. Following her education, she moved with her sister to Florida where she met Myron Barrie while he was serving in the United States Airforce. They were united in marriage on August 29, 1958, and together had two children. The first six years of marriage was spent traveling around the world while Myron continued to service in the Air Force. They lived in North Carolina and Germany, also spending time in Holland, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Luxembourg. After Myron’s honorable discharge, Beverly and Myron lived in Kansas for a short time before making Waseca their home in 1964.


Beverly worked at the Plant Place in Waseca, Waseca Public Schools, as well as providing daycare in the community for many years. She enjoyed sewing, needle work, and sports, especially hockey, football, and baseball. Beverly was a member of North Waseca Lutheran Church where she served on the church council as financial secretary, president of Hope Circle, and quilting for Lutheran World Relief. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross. Beverly was her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s biggest fan when it came to anything they were involved in, whether it was a concert or sporting event she made it to everything possible.


Beverly is survived by her husband of 64 years, Myron; children: D’Rae (Jerry) Dennis of Belle Plaine, and Mark (Kristin) Barrie of Owatonna; grandchildren: Marisa (Kevin) Woitas, Colby (Jenni) Schmidt, Chris (Shara) Schmidt, Katie (Joel) Kunz, Markie (Lisa) Barrie, Jessica Barrie, Dalton Barrie, and Hunter Barrie; 17 great grandchildren: Braeden, Jaxen, and Nolan Woitas, Brooklyn, Roslyn, Adalyn, and Kendelyn Schmidt, Graham and Beckham Schmidt, Gavin, Amelia, and Owen Kunz, Quiana, Spencer, and Amariana Johnson, and Gabriella and Isabella Barrie; sisters: Darla (Myron) Loon, Gayle (Al) Roeder, and Bonnie (Dale) Smith; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Preceded in death by her parents; great granddaughter, Grace Kathryn Woitas; brothers: Ralph (Mary) Mahoney and Michael (Mary) Mahoney; sisters: Peggy (Mitch) Snyder, and Angelina Velma Mahoney; son-in-law: Michael Schmidt.


Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2022, at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.


Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 5, 2022, at North Waseca Lutheran Church in rural Waseca. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
