Bernice E. Kuehn
BERNICE ELLA KUEHN, age 95 of Elysian, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Born on December 2, 1921 on the family farm in rural Janesville, she was the oldest daughter of Rudolph and Ella (Krueger) Quast. She attended school in rural Waseca County. Bernice married Elmer Kuehn on April 10, 1940 in Smiths Mill. Following their marriage, they farmed in Iosco Township near Waseca. While Elmer served in the military during WWII, Bernice worked at Birds Eye in Waseca. Following his discharge, they farmed near Madison Lake and later the Waseca and Morristown areas before moving to Elysian. Bernice was employed at a number of restaurants and bars in Elysian. She later worked part time as an Experienced Worker for the Elysian Elementary School and the City of Elysian.
Bernice was a member of the Elysian American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years and was the Legion 3rd District Poppy Queen. She was also a member of the Red Hats, the Elysian Lake Area Women and the Elysian Chamber. Whenever she was asked to volunteer for anything, she always said yes. Bernice was selected for the KEYC TV Jefferson Good People Award and was Grand Marshall for the Elysian 4th of July Parade. She loved to do crafts, shop, and go anywhere with her friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville.
She is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Mans of Shakopee and Betty (Harold) Wolle of Mankato, many nieces and nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Burton (Colleen) Quast; and brother-in-law, Joe Mans. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterville. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Elysian.
