Arthur M. Hutchens, Jr.
ARTHUR M. HUTCHENS JR., age 84 of Waseca died on Monday, October 31, 2016 at his home.
Born on May 24, 1932 in Austin, Minnesota, he was the son of Arthur and Kathleen (Fox) Hutchens Sr. He and his family moved to rural Waldorf in 1942 before moving to rural Waseca in 1943. He attended school in rural Waseca County before graduating from Waldorf High School in 1950. Art served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He worked for area farmers and farm businesses during the summer as well as operating his own farm until 1959. Art married Alice M. Marek on June 2, 1959 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale. After getting married, they moved to Waseca where Art worked for Tyrholm Sjoberg Ford Dealership until 1961. In 1961, he formed a partnership with Myron "Mike" Koehler and they began K & H Auto Repair. Upon Mikes retirement, Art became sole owner until selling the business to Bruce Jones and retiring in 1993.
Art enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, traveling, reading, puzzle solving and helping others. He also loved spending time with his family. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca, the Knights of Columbus and Sacred Heart Mens Club. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW in Waseca and the Waseca American Legion.
Art is survived by his wife, Alice of Waseca; four daughters and sons-in-law who were viewed as sons, Julie (Michael) Dahle of Madison, Linda (Daniel) Rose of Highland, IL, Donna (Sam) Miller of Louisville, KY and Karla (Bradley) Lieders of Stratford, WI; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Ardith (Lowell) Kohnert of Waseca, Betty Scadden of Penn Valley, CA, Duane (Deborah) Hutchens of Tucson, AZ, and Donald (Rose) Hutchens of Anoka; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother in infancy; and brother-in-law, Minier Scadden.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:30 AM until the time of services.
