ARTHUR B. CARLSON, JR., age 98 of Waseca died on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.
Born on September 27, 1917 in Cogswell, North Dakota, he was the son of Arthur B. and Martha (Dyste) Carlson Sr.  He served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Destroyer Unit Commander from April of 1941 until his discharge in March of 1946.   He also served in the North Dakota National Guard from 1946 until 1951.   Art married Nina Winifred Marshall on February 10, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas.   He attended Concordia College (Moorhead) and completed his degree in animal husbandry at North Dakota State University.  He worked as an agriculture and poultry specialist with Land OLakes for many years.
Art was an avid reader, especially history, theology, and politics.  A Saturday morning political discussion group was often a highlight of his week.  He also did stained glass work and acrylic painting.   A man of strong faith, he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca where he was active with Men in Mission.  Art and Nina enjoyed traveling and camping and taking the grandchildren to Elderhostels.  He had a loving and generous spirit and volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nina of Waseca; three children, Arthur B. Carlson III and his wife, Sheila Hoffman of St. Paul, Kurt W. Carlson and his wife, Jane of Rochester and Donald C. Carlson and his wife, Shar Paquette of Bemidji; ten grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by two sisters, Hannah Mae Nord and her husband, Glen of Pasadena, CA and Bernice Branstiter of Urbana, OH.   He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bertha Cruse; and two brothers, Robert and Donald Carlson.  
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Waseca on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 4-6 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Burial will be at Woodville Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church or ELCA World Hunger.
