Archie C. Anderson
ARCHIE CECIL ANDERSON, age 91 of Waseca, died on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in his home.
Born in Waubun, Minnesota, on July 5, 1926, Archie was the son of Helmer and Dorothy (Blair) Anderson. After graduating from Waubun High School, Archie enlisted in the United States Army and spent two years serving in Japan as Mess Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a cook at the Minneapolis Radisson and at the Fargo Graver Hotel. While at the Graver, he met Beatrice Wettstein, a waitress, who would become his future wife. Bea and Archie were married on May 14, 1949. Archie went on to work at the Waubun Creamery until moving to Fargo where he worked with the Fire Department for six years, and later as a Circulation Supervisor for the Minneapolis Star Tribune. He was transferred to Valley City in 1958, and later to Waseca in 1973. While in Valley City, they raised 4 children. After 26 years he retired from the Star Tribune and in 1981 went on to drive school bus for Clemens in Waseca for 23 years. Following Beas death in 1989 Archie married Pauline Calhoun in 1990. They resided in Waseca until her death in 2011. Archie then married Dolores Nelson in 2012. Archie was a past president of the Waseca Eagles Club, a past secretary-treasurer of the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a past Deacon of the Board at Vista Evangelical Covenant Church; and past president of the Waseca Gideon Chapter. He was involved with local prison ministries, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, cartooning, and attracting Martins to his bird houses. He was a model train enthusiast, played the harmonica, and also enjoyed woodworking. Archie could always be counted on to tell one of his favorite Ole and Lena jokes, as he and the band "Sharing and Caring" performed at area nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Dolores (Steinberg) Nelson of Waseca; four children: Jeanne (Randy) Mewes of Colgate, ND, Stephen (Christine) Anderson of Arden Hills, Doug (Pandy) Anderson of Belle Plaine, and Richard (Catherine) Anderson of Chanhassen; fifteen grandchildren: Mike (Melisa) Mewes, Matt (Erin) Mewes, Holly (Kelly) Martin, Stephanie (George) McCorkell, Brian (Leanne) Anderson, Kimberly (Matt) Keating, Daniel Anderson, Kevin Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Heidi Anderson, Daron (Trisha) Anderson, Sara (Erick) Linquist, Rebecca (Nick) Kimpton, Ben Anderson, Emily Anderson; fifteen great-grandchildren: Noah, Sophie, Jack, Josie, Emmy, Zack, Alayna, Annabelle, Evanie, Iris, Logan, Baylen, Kylie, Bailey, Beatrice, Baby Boy Keating (Due Mid-March); one nephew, Paul (Barb) Brehm of Waubun. The Nelson and Calhoun families continued to carry a very special place in Archies heart.
