HOWARD M. ANDERSON , age 96 of Waterville, died on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Mayo Health System in Mankato.

Born in New Richland on September 8, 1916, Howard was the son of Axel and Agnes (Johnson) Anderson.  He attended Waterville High School before serving in the United States Army.  While he was enlisted, Howard married Leora James on July 13, 1942 in Waynesville, MO.  Following his honorable discharge, the two of them made their home in Waterville.  Howard began his working years at the Osborne Mink Farm and he later moved on to raise mink of his own.  He also ran a garbage route in Waterville, drove pick-up truck hauling freight, served as mayor of Waterville for two and a half terms, drove school bus for over 30 years, and worked at GTA Elevator in Waterville.  Howard enjoyed antiques, going to auctions, and attending family get-togethers.

Howard is survived by his wife Leora of Waterville; two sons, Stuart Anderson and Russell (Linda) Anderson both of Kilkenny; one daughter, Karlane (Don) Jensen of Waterville; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; one step-great-great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Audrey Kopischke of Janesville and Wanda James of LaPlace, LA.  He was preceded in death by both of his parents as well as his stepfather, George Gish; two brothers, Leo and Jack; one grandchild, Robert; one nephew, John; one step-sister, Emogene and her husband Tom Broughton; five brothers-in-law, Merle, Mahlon, Keith, and Don James and Irvin Kopischke; and two sisters-in-law, Helen James and Elaine James.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, and will continue for one hour before the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Prosch-Dennis Funeral Home in Waterville, with Rev. Cindy Kennedy officiating.  Interment will follow at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
