Alvis More January 16, 1934 - October 31, 2011
Alvis F. More, age 77 of rural Mapleton, died on Monday, October 31, 2011 at his home from injuries sustained in a farm accident. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Glenn Korb officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, Freedom Township, Waseca County, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and will continue on Saturday morning for one hour prior to services at church. Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville is handling arrangements. Alvis Fay was born on January 16, 1934 in Mankato, Minnesota to Fay and Helen (Burnell) More. He attended Pemberton Schools. Alvis worked for Nordaas American Homes prior to his military service. He served in the United States Army from August of 1954 until his honorable discharge in June of 1956. Alvis returned home, and on September 24, 1956 he was united in marriage to Carol Jean Schull at St. John''s Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Alvis and Carol raised their family and farmed in McPherson Township, and later Medo Township. In addition to farming, Alvis volunteered his time to many area organizations. He had served on the board of directors for: Blue Earth County Pork Producers, Farmamerica, Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Region Nine, and Blue Earth County Extension. Alvis was proud to have served Blue Earth County as a Commissioner for 14 years. He also spent time as a VINE Volunteer and Waseca County Big Brother, and over the years was active as a St. Clair Athletic Backer and in the St. Clair PTA. Alvis loved taking pictures, playing cards, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, attending his grandchildren''s sporting events, and enjoyed the tours he and Carol guided to Alaska, Germany, and Hawaii. Alvis also played Santa Claus for many years. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Freedom Township where he had served on the church board, and a member of the St. Clair American Legion Post #475.
