Alvin Kahnke, age 90, of Janesville passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair with Fr. Robert Schneider, Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be for 2 hours prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church. Memorials are preferred to donors choice.

Alvin Leo Kahnke was born on April 29, 1927 in Alton Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to Sebastian and Regina (Schmidt) Kahnke. He was raised on a farm in rural Janesville graduating from Janesville High School in 1945. Alvin began farming in Blue Earth County following his education. In 1954 he was called to service for the United States Army, being honorably discharged in 1956.
On May 27, 1957, Alvin was united in marriage to Margaret Yainske in Wells, Minnesota. Alvins true passion in life was farming, whether it was his crops or various livestock. Alvin and Margaret spent their entire lives together on their farm in rural Janesville.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair where he was a Eucharistic Minister and usher for thirty years. Alvin was on the McPherson Township Board for 32 years. In his free time, Alvin enjoyed taking care of his yard and took great pride in the many compliments he received. Alvins family fondly remembers him for his patience, calm demeanor, and generosity. He will be dearly missed.
Alvin is survived by his three daughters: Carol (Paul) Hoffman of Rural Eagle Lake, Joan (Tim) Brosam of Savage, and Sharon (John) Hardel of Chanhassen; his three grandchildren: Chris (Kristina) Hoffman, Kaylee (Dan) Phelps, and Kevin Brosam; three great grandchildren: Payton, Harlee and Sawyer Hoffman; brother, Eugene (Mary) Kahnke of West St. Paul; sisters-in-law: Reely Kahnke of N. Mankato, Alice Yainske of Cloquet, and Lillian (Richard) Bush of Stewartville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Lawrence Kahnke.
