Alvin Bittner July 5, 1917 - November 19, 2008

Alvin W. Bittner, age 91 of Elysian, died on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Central Health Care in LeCenter, MN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Dr. Larry Griffin officiating. Interment will be in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, and will continue on Saturday afternoon for one hour prior to services, at church. Alvin William was born on July 5, 1917 in Freedom Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to William and Rose (Fratzke) Bittner. He was baptized on July 29, 1917. Alvin attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School in Janesville, and on March 29, 1931 was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage on November 19, 1941 to Dorothy Lorraine Manthey at St. John''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Alma City. They farmed the first five years near Pemberton, and then for six years near Eagle Lake. Since 1952 Alvin and Dorothy have farmed northwest of Elysian in Elysian Township, LeSueur County. Alvin was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Alvin enjoyed summer and winter fishing, and was a member of the North Elysian Silver Lake Sportsman''s Club. Alvin and Dorothy shared their 67th wedding anniversary on the day Alvin passed away. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Elysian; by his brother Wilmer "Bud" (Eileen) Bittner of Waldorf; by his nephew Larry Bittner of Bozeman, MT, and his niece Judy (Doug) LaPitz of River Falls, WI; by his good friends Jason and Laurie Coon of Elysian and Gene and Virginia Stoering of Waterville. He was preceded in death by his parents.
