Allen S. Johnson, age 86, of Janesville, died peacefully on December 7, 2012 at Glenview Assisted Living Center in Shell Lake, WI.
Memorial services (for both Allen and his wife Edna, who passed away December 21, 2012) will be held on Friday, December 28th at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville with Rev. Nancy Hansen, officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday in the Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery, Bricelyn, Minnesota
The Johnson Family will greet friends on Thursday, December 27th from 4 to 7 P.M. at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesvlle, and will continue on Friday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts are asked to be directed to Faith Lutheran church of Janesville or Glenview Assisted Living Center of Shell Lake, WI.
Allen Stewart was born on June 21, 1926 to Christ and Nora (Johnson) Johnson in rural Bricelyn, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Bricelyn Lutheran Church. Allen graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1944. In the fall of 1944 he entered the U. S. Navy and trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. After training at Great Lakes, Allen was sent to the U. S. Naval Radio Training School in Los Angeles, California. He served on the USSS Talmanera LST for overseas duty. Allen was honorably discharged in 1946. Allen returned home to Bricelyn and worked at the Bricelyn Elevator. On October 19, 1947 he married Edna L. Gaard of Bricelyn, Minnesota. They lived in Bricelyn and Minnesota Lake, Minnesota prior to moving to Janesville in 1955 where he was a Grain Buyer, Manager, and later an Auditor for the Grain Terminal Association (GTA). Allen also assisted his wife Edna with accounting duties for Edna''s Beauty Shop for 50 years. In 2009 Allen and Edna moved to Cumberland, Wisconsin and then to Shell Lake, Wisconsin in 2011. On October 28th Allen and Edna gathered with family and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Allen enjoyed music and song with the Waseca Barbershoppers, playing cards, classic
cars, and following his children''s and grandchildren''s activities. He was a former secretary and member of the Janesville Chamber of Commerce, and the Janesville Sportsman''s Club. Allen was a member of the IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows) and the Janesville Rotary Club. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, served on its church council and worked with the local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was a loving husband and father who devoted his life to his family. His sense of humor and easy-going manner endeared him to family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Edna of Shell Lake, Wisconsin; three children: Brad (Bonnie) Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota, Stu (Kelly Harms) Johnson of Fort Myers, Florida, Rebecca (Jim) Connell of Shell Lake, Wisconsin. He has five grandchildren: Thomas Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Michael Johnson, Matthew Connell, and Jennifer Connell along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Elwood and Clarence. Also preceding him in death were nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Honorary bearers are Allen's grandchildren: Thomas Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Michael Johnson, Matthew Connell, and Jennifer Connell.
