Allen "Papa" David Spies

ALLEN DAVID (PAPA) SPIES, age 73, of Waseca peacefully passed away at his home on May 5th 2020.

Allen David, the son of Arvin and Dorothy (Wood) Spies, was born on Oct. 16, 1946 in Waseca Mn. Allen graduated from Waseca High School with the class of 1964. He met the love of his life, Karen and they married on Dec 12 1964 at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Together they raised 3 children, Tori, David and Dodi in Waseca.
He started working at Brown printing company when he was 18 and continued to work there until he and Karen moved to Wisconsin in 1989.There he worked at St Croix Press until he retired from printing. In the 1970s he built houses and did business remodels with his dad, mom and his brother Ronnie. After his retirement they moved back to MN and worked for Neil Dornbusch and Associates from 2000 to 2019 in New Prague MN. He moved back to Waseca in 2017.

Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching MN sports, meeting old friends for dinner and baked goodies. He did beautiful wood work including a complete nursery set for his grandbabies. Most of all he loved being Papa to his grand and great grandchildren. He loved Babies and we called him the baby whisperer. He was the absolute best at keeping secrets.

He is survived by his children, Tori (Rick) Larson of Lakeville, MN, David (Lisa) Spies of Dundee, MN, Dodi (Jim) Huston of New Prague, MN; by 10 Grandchidren, Ricky (Katie) Larson, Mitchel (Shawna) Larson, Alyssa (Ryan) Ulvi, Brock (George) Spies, Brady Spies, Brandt Spies, Bronson Spies, Brandi Spies, Jamee (John) Hopkins, Jess Huston; by 7 great grandchildren, Colton, Gracien, Thomson, Killian, Lachlan, Everett and Walker. Siblings, Karen (Richard) Johnson of Waseca, Cheri (Larry) Boucher of Elysian MN, Ronnie (Amy) Spies of Waseca MN.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years and his parents.

Visitation for Allen will be held from 4-7PM on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis Funeral Homes in Waseca.
