Alan Joseph Kunz was born on June 26, 1954, to Lyle and Frances (Donelan) Kunz in Waseca. He was a 1972 graduate of Waldorf Pemberton High School where he was a three-sport athlete, participating in: Football, Wrestling and Baseball. On November 20, 1976, Alan was united in marriage to Barbara Mulcahey at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. This marriage was blessed with three children.
Alan worked alongside his father and brother on the family farm for many years. Later he began working for Waseca County as a Highway Sign Technician while continuing to help on the family farm. Alan retired from the Waseca County on April 20, 2016.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and was the gambling manager for the Waseca Hockey Association.
Alan wanted nothing more than everyone around him to have a good time, whether it was by entertaining company or hosting fish frys. You could often find him at the Janesville Dairy Queen where the ice cream cones were always a little bigger. He was a lover of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Growing up Alan grew a passion for fishing which was largely due to his father, who would bring him on fishing trips to Canada. Alan continued this tradition with his sons. He was known for his generosity and caring heart, always willing to help a friend. Above all, family came first to Alan. He cherished time he spent with his loving wife, children and especially his grandchildren. Many will greatly miss him.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barb; children: Brian (Sara) of Sartell, Missy (Joel) Pfeifer of Waseca, and Joel (Katie) of Pace, FL; grandchildren: Kyra and Carter Pfeiffer; Gavin, Amelia and Owen Kunz; Mila and Lila Kunz; mother, Frances; siblings: Susan (Bill) Mitchell of Coon Rapids, Carol (Chris) Tangen of Burnsville, Joanne (Lance) Ludeman of Maple Valley, WA, and Jeff (Beth Wolner) Kunz of Waseca; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Lyle; and brother, Kevin.
