WILLIAM HUGO EWERT, age 95, of Janesville, died on July 4, 2022 at Hillcrest Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.
Born on August 12, 1926, in Vivian Township, Waseca County, to Hugo and Myrtice (Beyer) Ewert. Bill was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his youth both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. He received his education first at Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Janesville High School in 1944. Following his education, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served overseas in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. Bill was honorably discharged in 1946. On November 5, 1947, Bill was united in marriage to Shirley Rollins at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Together they made their home in Janesville while raising two children. Bill and Shirley shared 59 years of marriage before Shirley passed away on February 1, 2007.
Bill was a hard worker throughout his life, in his early years he owned and operated Ewert Dairy until 1964. He drove truck for Webb Scott and Bud Schmidt in Waseca as well as for Del Goebel-Jensen before retiring from truck driving in 1987. Bill also had a 29 ½ year career with Crystal Valley Coop. Bill enjoyed going to cabin with his family on the weekends where he taught his kids to fish and waterski. Later in life he enjoyed motorcycling. In 2022, Bill received a certificate for his 75 years of dedicated membership to the Janesville American Legion.
Bill is survived by his children: Lynn Wheelock (Barney Lawson) of Janesville and Ted (Esther) Ewert of Smiths Mill; grandchildren: Tricia (Aaron) Kallunki, Jamie Wheelock, Beckie Wheelock, Mark Ewert (Sarah Petrich), and Sara (Corey) Ashmore; great grandchildren: Mryhia, Alyssa, Ava, Stella, Abraham, and Theodore; other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Roger; and great granddaughter, Harper.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Interment with military honors will be in Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
